Einstein Medal for LIGO and Virgo Collaborations






On June 7, 2017, The Einstein Society awarded the Einstein medal for the first time to Collaborations, recognizing the LIGO and Virgo Collaborations for the team spirit that produced the first detection of gravitational waves of coalescing black holes.  Read more here.

Karsten Danzmann Receives Fritz Behrens Foundation Science Prize

"On November 29, 2016, Prof. Karsten Danzmann, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics and Director of the Institute for Gravitational Physics of the Leibniz Universität Hannover received one of the two Science Prizes of the Fritz Behrens Foundation for his life’s work and especially for his contributions to the first direct detection of gravitational waves and to gravitational wave astronomy. Each prize is endowed with 30,000 euros in research funds; the Foundation has awarded them to outstanding researchers every two years since 2010." -- link here

Prof. Alicia M Sintes wins multiple awards for contributions to LIGO and gravitational waves

Prof. Alicia M Sintes, member of the University of Balearic Islands Relativity and Gravitation Group, has received the "Onda Cero Menorca 2016" award for Science and Research, the "Menorca por la igualdad 2016" award by the PSOE party, and the "Protagonista de la Vida Menorquina' 2016 award in Social Activities by the 'Diari de Menorca' for her teaching, outreach and research activities associated to the first detection of gravitational waves!

University of the Balearic Islands Wins Receives Awards for LIGO Detection

In February of 2016, the Relativity and Gravitation group at the University of the Balearic Islands was awarded the Onda Cero Mallorca 2016 their contribution to the detection of gravitational waves.
